Easter has just come and gone for another year, and as always that’s an extra excuse (as if we needed one) to enjoy chocolate, and lots of it! In our household it’s a time when the guilt pangs get brushed aside as we indulge in the usual egg and bunny-shaped treats.

But what if we told you to eat a little more chocolate and your body will love you for it? Confused? Well, we can give you six great reasons why you SHOULD eat chocolate – or more specifically, quality dark chocolate with a high cocoa percentage:

1. Dark chocolate is great for anti-aging as it fights free radicals and is full of anti-oxidants.
2. It’s good for your heart. There are numerous studies that explain dark chocolate contains a chemical called flavanols, which increases blood flow & will reduce blood pressure.
3. An increase in blood flow also means improvements in mental function, cognition & mood, so your brain loves it.
4. There is a growing amount of research that cocoa can be a powerful anti-inflammatory agent.
5. There have been studies that prove eating dark chocolate lessens our cravings for sweet, salty & fatty foods and therefore helps prevent weight gain.
6. The cocoa bean has an anti-bacterial effect on the mouth and can fight against bacteria and toothdecay. Some scientists even believe it will eventually end up in our mouthwashes and toothpastes.
